The tolling of the castiddana at two hours of night of the clocks and bells of the parishes of San Nicolò all’Albergheria, Sant’Antonio Abate, and Santa Lucia al Borgo were the closing signal for activities in the city and for the emergence of night patrols; from that moment on people were prohibited from wandering the streets without a special permit.
