Dates to the Norman era; its name derives from the neighboring Church of Sant’Agata la Pedata.
Porta Sant’Agata
Bagheria was preferred vacation for the vacation homes of the nobility, who wanted to get away from the crowds and heat of the city. In 1658 the Prince of Butera, Giuseppe Branciforte had a villa built on his property, where he decided to retire, in contempt of the Court of Palermo. The first nucleus of the town developed around his villa. During the eighteenth century, the holiday “in Bagheria” became synonymous with prestige for the nobility. AC, 258.
